SJSU Spotlights The Digital Arts Lab

Tuesday, December 16, 2008

The Salinas Public Library would like to thank SJSU's School of Library and Information Science for spotlighting the Digital Arts Lab. We are very excited to provide the Salinas community with these NEW services. We are also interested in sharing our experiences with other libraries and librarians.

It is IMPORTANT to note that original idea for the Digital Arts Lab came from Salinas Public Library Director Elizabeth Martinez. Her decision to create the lab was based on technology and career trends. Funding for the lab was made possible by the Irvine Foundation through board member Judge Lydia Villarreal.

As mentioned in the SJSU article, the NEW Young Adult Lounge at the John Steinbeck Library is adjacent to the Digital Arts Lab. This area is the result of a study lead by SJSU SLIS Professor Anthony Bernier. Over the period of six months the Salinas Public Library conducted surveys and youth focus groups from the community.

The foundation for NEW library services has been established in Salinas. Presently, the Salinas Public Library is empowering staff to meet the needs of today's society. This process is a challenge! However, we are committed to sharing our progress and experiences with you. Please stay tuned. We appreciate your comments and support.
